Inspiring Nature
Por Tátil
A very original and inspiring website has just been launched by Janine Benius, an American biologist who got global visibility after giving a speech on Biomimetics on TED – worldwide Technology, Entertainment and Design event.
Biomimetics is a scientific field whose main goal is the studying of biological structures and their functions with the purpose of learning from Nature.
On Ask Nature – Benius`s website – you find a compilation of almost 1000 cases of “bionic solutions”, which are illustrated examples of how nature solves its problems on energy saving, residue management or any other topic that might be of interest to the website viewers.
To take part on it, you have to just answer the question, “How would Nature…”. The website also provides you with examples of technological solutions that were directly inspired by natural solutions, such as, an African building which is equipped with a sophisticated temperature-control-system totally inspired by termite dwellings.
Janine proposes that part of the profit made by bionic solutions should be reinvested in initiatives to preserve the specimen that inspired each project.
